Eugene Semmler, son of Jacob and Hulda (Maas) Semmler, was born January 6, 1918 in Armour, SD. He grew up and received his education in the Parkston and Ree Heights, SD areas. In 1942 he entered the Army and served during WWII.
On April 26, 1943 he was united in marriage to Nelda Winter in Parkston, SD. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1950 and in 1951 he became employed by Lakeside Dairy. He retired in 1985 and continued with the dairy on a part-time basis. Nelda preceded him in death in 1995. In 1998 he moved to Reliance, SD, and in 2003 to Mitchell, SD.
He was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church, was on the board of St. John’s Boy Scout Troop for 20 years and a life member of the VFW and DAV.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Mary (Kent) Taylor, Sioux Falls, Ruth Schomacker, Sioux Falls, Ron Semmler, Pierre, SD, Cindy (Robert) Voyles, Mitchell, Dean (Barb) Semmler, Sioux Falls, grandchildren, Jay Petersen, Sioux Falls, Sean Hofer, Miami, FL, Aaron Semmler, Pierre, Tiffany Semmler, Sioux Falls, Tia Van Pelt, Sioux Falls, Jesse Voyles, Springfield, SD, Darcy Semmler, Sioux Falls, 3 great grandchildren, 3 step granddaughters, siblings, Bernice Jeske, Eureka, SD, Mildred Sandmeier, Bowdle, SD, Olga Heisinger, Mitchell, Vera Jensen, Golden, CO, and David Semmler, Parkston, SD.
His parents and 5 sisters, a brother and son in-law also preceded him in death.
Public visitation begins at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main Ave. Funeral services begin at 1:00 PM Monday at Miller’s with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Memorial Park.
