David Bunde, age 67, died Saturday morning, February 6th at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls.
His funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 13th at Miller Funeral Home (507 S. Main). Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday with the family present from 4-6 pm at Millers.
David James Bunde was born on August 14, 1942 to Melvin and Mabel (Hanson) Bunde in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. He graduated from Lyons High School and then entered the Army. After the Army, Dave started driving truck. He spent the next thirty-two years traveling all around the United States and hauling everything from refrigerated goods to gravel and sand.
Dave loved to have a good time. He was well known for his ability to cook and dance. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar, football, and spending time with his grandchildren. Dave took great pride in is safe driving record and maintaining his semi-truck. He received numerous safety awards for his driving. Dave was united in marriage to Margareta Edel on August 27, 2000. They enjoyed many great years and were proud of a last place trophy they earned together on a bowling tournament.
Dave was very optimistic throughout his battle with cancer. He fought his prostate cancer for over five years, and he never let it get him down. He will be remembered by his fellow trucker colleagues as Uncle Davey. Dave died at the VA Hospital on Saturday morning with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Margareta; daughter, Lynda (Bill) Tripp; son, Bryan Bunde; step-daughter, Larissa Thomas; step-son, John (Mindy) Thomas; grandchildren: Jessica, Will, Andy, Tom and Anna Tripp, Andrew, Oriana, Zane, Ava and Jacob; brother, Roland (Ann) Bunde; sisters; Lila Grotjohn and Audrey (Larry) Poppens; sister-in-law, Marlene Bunde and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife, Judy; brother, Jerry and brother-in-law, Dale.
