Delbert W. Schroeder, age 92, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 10th at St. John American Lutheran Church. Family present visitation will be at Miller Funeral Home (507 S. Main) from 5-7 pm on Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 pm.
Delbert was born in Ramona, South Dakota on May 14, 1917 to Carl and Emma Schroeder. On March 1, 1958 he married the love of his life, Genevieve Nelson. For the next thirty years, Delbert and Gen lived on their farm near Nunda. He farmed with his brother, Vernon, until retiring. In 1989, the couple moved to Sioux Falls.
Delbert respected the land and enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He will always be remembered for his extensive collection of John Deere farm equipment toys and Minnesota Vikings and Twins memorabilia. In Delbert’s younger years, hunting and fishing were a few of his favorite pastimes. After retirement, he enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends and relatives. He was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda and of St. John American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Delbert spent countless hours with his two grandchildren, Alyssa and Cody. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Gen; daughter, Kay (Leo) Rokusek of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Alyssa and Cody Rokusek; one niece, Linda Schroeder and one nephew, Roger Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon and Elmer and sisters, Edna and Viola.
