Life Legacy


Charles Anthony Huber was born July 1, 1926, the youngest child of John and Barbara (Koehner) Huber. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and graduated from Hoven High School. Chuck enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and served 2 years as a Seaman 1st Class, on a ship in the Pacific. In 1948, he married LuVerne “Sandie” Sandmeier in Hoven. Chuck went to Barber School in Minneapolis, MN. He worked in a barber shop in Hoven. Chuck moved to Aberdeen, attended Northern College and was co-owner of Chuck and Don’s Barber Shop. Chuck moved his family to Sioux Falls, SD in 1962 and managed the SD Barber College until it closed in 1987. Chuck continued working ar Grange Avenue Barber Shop until he retired in 2005.

Chuck was an active member of Spirit of Peace Church, UCC (formerly Crestwood UCC Church). He served as President of the SD Barbers Association, and was a member of the American Legion. He volunteered his hair cutting talents at Good Samaritan Center and the SD State Penitentiary. He loved playing golf, softball, and cards with his family. He belonged to many softball leagues through the years and celebrated his 70th, 75th, and 80th birthdays with a softball game with family and friends. Chuck was a vibrant and loving man touching the hearts of many people in his life.

Those left to cherish Chuck’s memory include: his wife, Sandie; son, Randy (Juli) Huber of Tea, SD and their children Rebekah and Gunnar Vagenius, Rachelle Huber, RaeAnne and Steven Hebnes, Kathrein and Jared Peterson, and Herick Carias, and grandchildren Lara Vagenius, and Tobe’ Carias; son, Barry Huber of Lake City, FL and family; daughter, Pam (Scott) Stewert of Lake City, FL and their family; son, Scott (Cyndy) Huber of Sioux Falls, SD and her children, Brita and Jesse Price, Abby Nelson, Reeca Rettig and grandchildren, Koi Rettig, Vince and Alex Price. Preceding Chuck in death were: his parents; three brothers, Albert, Leo, and Ray; three sisters, Ceil Dufloth, Alice Blumhardt, and Irene Johnson; grandson, Caleb Huber; and numerous other relatives and friends.
