Alex F. "Tom" Fogg passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on 5/30/2025. He was 90.

Tom Fogg was born 11/25/1934 in Ft. Thompson, SD to Louis and Edna (Ross) Fogg. He attended boarding school in Pierre, SD, and Highmore, SD. After completing the 10th grade in 1951, Tom followed in the footsteps of his older brother, an American soldier who was killed in action on D-Day at the beaches of Normandy, France. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Tom was honorably discharged in 1954.

Upon returning home to Fort Thompson, Tom participated in local rodeos as a saddle bronc rider. He found success as he traveled to various rodeos in South Dakota. Tom then attended welding school in Chicago, IL. He spent the next 44 years as a welder, working on high-rise buildings and rail cars, and took great pride in his work as a welder.

Tom married Ione Big Crow, and together, they had a daughter, Alexis, and a son, Christopher. Tom took great joy in spending time with his growing family and relatives. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a leader among his community.

Tom was raised by his grandfather, who instilled in him the importance of their heritage and the need to pass on their knowledge to future generations. Tom was a painter and also taught himself the art of beadwork. He became accomplished in this art and created a replica of the beaded belt worn by Sacagawea, of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This belt is on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC. Tom was known in the community as a storyteller, and his extended family sought him out for his advice and counsel.  Above all, Tom's family brought him joy.

Grateful for sharing Tom's life are his daughters, Alexis, Francine, and Edna; sons, Christopher and Alexius; brother, Henry "Flip"; and sisters, Rozalia, Bertha, Emma, Joyce, and Ethel. Grandchildren Klara, Darien, Damon, Dylan, Free, Krystal, and Mary. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, son Frank, daughter Kathy, and his wife, Ione.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
