Alice Irene Van Fosson, resident of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Dougherty Hospice surrounded by love. Alice was 99 years.

Alice Irene Provow was born on November 14, 1925, in Montgomery County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Herlie and Celia (Griffin) Provow. Alice spent her early years in Montgomery County until her family moved to College Springs during her freshman year of high school. She graduated from College Springs High School in 1943 and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1959.

On December 22, 1945, Alice married Leo Melvin Van Fosson in College Springs, Iowa. Together, they raised two children, Gregory and Lisa. Alice began her teaching career at Farquhar Rural School from 1944 to 1945 and dedicated 26 years as a second-grade teacher in the Glenwood Community School District before retiring in 1987.

After retirement, Alice and Leo enjoyed traveling. They settled in Mission, Texas, where they lived for 25 years. In November 2015, she moved to Sioux Falls to be near family.

Alice was a devoted member of the Methodist Church in Glenwood for over 40 years, passionately involved in church activities and community service. She found joy in sewing, traveling, and most importantly, in the love of her family. A member of a Bike Club in Colorado, she forged lasting friendships that brought joy to her life. Her family, faith, and the children she taught were her truest passions.

Alice is survived by her son, Gregory (Victoria) Van Fosson of Lehigh, IA; three cherished grandchildren: Katie (Joe) Lovstad, Zachery Van Fosson, and Alex Van Fosson; and seven adored great-grandchildren: Bobbi Lovstad, Abbigail Lovstad, Daisha Warren, Eian Warren, Haven Warren, Carter Warren, and Irving Jumping Eagle. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Douglas (Ruth) Provow of Ames, IA, and many other dear family members and friends who hold her memory close to their hearts.

Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Leo Van Fosson; her daughter, Lisa Van Fosson-Nelson; her brother, Charles Provow; and two cherished grandchildren, Lloyd Warren and Alicia Warren.

A funeral service celebrating Alice's beautiful life will be held at 10:30 a.m., with a visitation starting one hour prior, on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57106. A private inurnment for both Alice and Leo will take place at a later date at Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Iowa, where they will be reunited in eternal peace.
