Alyce Marie (Luken) Dummermuth passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Saint Mary Catholic Church (2109 S 5th Ave., Sioux Falls, SD). Immediately following the service, the family will hold a private family interment.
Alyce was born July 4, 1927 in Egan, South Dakota to Arthur and Marie (McGinty) Luken. After graduating from Washington High School in 1945, she went on to graduate from Augustana College and met her husband, Don Dummermuth. They shared 67 wonderful, adventurous years together before Don passed away in 2017. They were loving parents to their four children and enjoyed attending their various activities throughout the years.
Alyce was a school teacher at Lowell Elementary in the Sioux Falls School District for 23 years. She was a member of PEO Chapter 1, SD Retired Teachers Association, Cooties Auxiliary, Children's Care Hospital Association, and St. Mary Church Guild.
Alyce and Don enjoyed traveling the states and visiting various destinations around the world. They also enjoyed playing bridge with good friends. In Alyce's final years, she lived at Dow Rummel Village where she made many friends and received loving care.
Grateful for sharing her life are daughter, Laurel Merrick (Steve), Cave Creek, AZ, son, Dave Dummermuth (Chris), Phoenix, AZ, daughter, Lisa Porter (Rick), Sheridan, WY and son Dan Dummermuth (Gwen), Timnath, CO; grandchildren, Nathan Merrick (Devann), Encino, CA and Dani Magana (Andrew), Wellington, CO; and great-granddaughters, Imani Magana and Charlie Rae Merrick.
Alyce was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and grandson, Matthew Merrick; along with an infant daughter, Mary.
Memorials can be directed to PEO - Program for Continuing Education or a charity of your choice.
Miller Funeral Home will be handling arrangements for the family.
