Barbara Ann
Mccoy
Mar 16, 1942 — May 22, 2025
Hartford
Barbara "Barb" Ann McCoy, age 83, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at St. George Catholic Church (408 S. Western Ave., Hartford, SD). Family will be present for visitation from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home – Hartford Chapel (600 S. Western Ave., Hartford, SD).
Barb was born on March 16, 1942 to Clifford and Marion (Fischenich) Lawrence in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She grew up on the North End of Sioux Falls and attended Cathedral Elementary School and High School. This would be where she met her "grade-school sweetheart," David McCoy. She graduated in 1960 and shortly thereafter, the couple would marry on December 26, 1960 at The Cathedral of St. Joseph in Sioux Falls.
Barb and David settled into Sioux Falls where they raised their four sons, Mark, Tom, Scott, and Jim. Barb was an extraordinary homemaker to her family. She was on top of every detail and was the glue that kept the family together. Nothing mattered more to her than her family and taking care of her four boys, and she was exceptionally proud of them. The family moved to Montrose from 1975-1984 where Barb was significantly involved in her children's lives, attending every sports game and "roughing it" camping and fishing along the Missouri River and at Lake Poinsett with the family as much as possible. She especially loved time soaking up the sun while on the river while wearing her infamous tube tops. After David's retirement, he and Barb continued to fish and camp, often visiting friends at West Whitlock Resort.
Barb took care of her home with meticulous detail, cleaning and keeping things orderly. She was an excellent cook and baker, frequently whipping up delicious fresh cookies for family and friends. Her Christmas cookies were the highlight of the season. She was also rather crafty, making macramé holders for the many plants that she loved to keep in the house. Barb would act as a seamstress, picking up patterns and sewing shirts for her boys or repairing any clothing items that needed to be spruced up.
Barb was a loving and doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She looked forward to spending time with her family and attended every birthday party. Of course, they would frequently bake cookies together, but Barb also loved to play cards and board games, especially scrabble. She will be missed immeasurably by so many.
Grateful to have shared Barb's life with her are her sons, Tom (Jan) McCoy of Sioux Falls, SD, Scott (Brenda) McCoy of Montrose, SD, and Jim (Dawn Koenig) McCoy of Tea, SD; her daughter-in-law, Patti McCoy of Puyallup, WA; her 9 grandchildren, Bryce (Chelsea) McCoy, Makenzie (Dustin) Minga, Nicole (Earl) Siemonsma, Brandan (Mandy) McCoy, Tyler (Chantelle) McCoy, Kylie (Jeremy) Brady, Jarvis (Meggie) McCoy, Megan (Matt) Grisham, and Marissa (Joe) Runge; her 21 great-grandchildren, Walker and Charlie McCoy, Mason Minga, Easton and Nariah Siemonsma, Carter, Jersey and Piper McCoy, Tayrek, Tyce, and Khaleesi McCoy, Cole, Madisyn, and Cutler Brady, Malcom, Wrenner, and Palmer McCoy, McCoy and Myles Grisham, and Cooper and Brinley Runge; her brother, Clifford (Patty) Lawrence of Kaukauna, WI; her sister, Bev (Bill) Earley of Sioux Falls, SD; her brother-in-law, Cecil (Eileen) McCoy of Sioux Falls, SD; her sister-in-law, Mary (Ken) Hartle of Humboldt, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David McCoy; her son, Mark McCoy; and her parents, Clifford and Marion Lawrence.
