Barbara Ann Nissen, Sioux Falls, SD, passed away July 5, 2025, at Sanford Foundation Hospice. She was 82 years old.

Barbara Ann Nissen was born April 6, 1943, at Dolliver, Iowa, to Arnold and Carol (Herum) Saha. Raised in Dolliver, she attended local schools and graduated with the last graduating class of Dolliver High School in 1960. Following her graduation, she attended the registered nursing program at Augustana University. Barbara earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing in 1964.

Later that year in December, Barbara was united in marriage to Dennis Nissen. The couple moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Dennis attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics and Barbara worked as a hospital nurse. In June 1966, the couple moved to San Mateo, California. Barbara continued her lifelong career as a hospital nurse, dedicating her life to caring for those in need.

In 2001, the couple joined their two children in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Barbara worked at Sanford Hospital for a period of time before retiring in 2005.

Barb and Dennis loved to travel, and over the years had taken trips to Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, and Canada. In her free time, Barb loved to sew, cross-stitch, and knit. She always looked forward to springtime when she could start working on her garden. A talented cook, she also loved to bake cookies, cakes, and fresh bread.

Outgoing, friendly, and caring, Barbara will be forever cherished.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Dennis Nissen, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Kevin Nissen, Sioux Falls, SD; grandson, Paul Hollingsworth; brother, James Saha; and sisters, Janet Saha and Dorothy Anderson. Barb is preceded in death by her daughter, Karla Hollingsworth and her parents.
