Obituary

Betty passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. She was 97.

Betty was born March 10, 1928 in Duluth, Minnesota. She was the loving daughter of Martin B.Fjar and Ingeborg Ecklind Fjar, Two Harbors MN.

After graduating from Two Harbors High School in 1946, she became a beautician and worked at Glass Block located in Duluth, MN. She worked as a homemaker, while her children were still at home.  Later, Betty worked at Sears Minneapolis for various Sears Shipping and their Hub Office for 27-1/2 years, retiring at age 70.

Betty was a member of Family of God Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park, MN, and VFW Auxiliary Coon Rapids Post 9625.

You usually couldn't find Betty without her camera and she just "had to finish the film".  Betty's love and companion was her Boston Terrier " Susie". Since her name was Betty, she had a huge collection of Betty Boop memorabilia.  Betty's hobbies were bowling, golfing, embroidery, and making her favorite meatballs and pancakes. Each Christmas she made Spritz cookies. Betty loved to make beet pickles and bread, and butter pickles each fall. Betty was an avid fan, traveling to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities.  She also was the family historian, keeping photos and family information in scrapbooks for each family member.  Her favorite games were playing Scrabble, Pinochle, Solitaire, and Cribbage.

Susan and Larry have been caring for Betty in their home since November 3, 2024.  She was moved to the Dougherty Hospice House on June 2, 2025. Betty passed away peacefully at Dougherty Hospice House on Wednesday June 4th, 2025 at the age of 97 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill (1981), and son- in -law Paul Anderson.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan, ( Larry) Panning, Todd, (Jodi) Panning,Kaylee, (Fiance) Jason Steckley),  Joshua (fiancee Sierra Heidinger), Ethan (Kylie) Heitkamp, Aidan Heitkamp and (Special Friend Layne Schmidt), Chad (Tamara) Panning, Grace (Jared) Christofferson, Emily, Amanda, Austin, Jill (Bill) Albright, Mattie, Hallie, Sydnie, Peggy Anderson, Michael, Matthew (girlfriend Sarah Ehnstom). Alan (Donna) Ostlund, Katie, (Special Friend Larry Fennert Jr), Evelyn, Gunnar, Kelsey (Special Friend Nate Bakalyar), Larissa (Brodie Karabensh), Teagan, Landon, Dustin Bennis.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 Tuesday, June 24th, 2025, with visitation prior from 10-11 AM at Family of God Lutheran Church, located at 8625 Zane Ave N Brooklyn Park, MN 5544

Interment will be held after the ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery (where our father Bill Ostlund is buried) 7601 34th Ave S Minneapolis Mn 55450 at 2:00 PM.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, if you are thinking of making a memorial donation, please choose one of your favorite foundations and send it to them.  Thank you.
