Beverly Ann (Seefeldt) Armfield was born on March 7, 1940, to Herman and Hannah (Wright) Seefeldt in Willow Lake, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm and began her education in a one-room schoolhouse near her home. After graduating from Willow Lake High School 1958, she pursued her nursing degree at St. John's School of Nursing in Huron, South Dakota, graduating in 1961.
