Robert John "Bob" Lux of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was born to Raymond and Kathryn (Reimers) Lux on August 3rd, 1954, in West Point, Nebraska. The second of eight children, Bob grew up in West Point until 1972.

After two years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Bob transferred to the Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, earning his broadcasting license and starting his career as a radio disc jockey and advertising producer. Bob earned multiple Addy awards for his creative radio ad campaigns. He worked at stations across Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and South Dakota, including a popular morning show at KXRB. It was during the run of that program that Bob hosted an annual birthday cake contest for himself, with the grand prize award being an autographed portrait of Elvis… signed by none other than Bob Lux.

While working at KOBH in Hot Springs, South Dakota, Bob joined the local Knights of Columbus council, where he met James Wilder. Jim introduced Bob to his daughter, Mary Anne, who would eventually become Bob's wife and the mother to his four children.

A talented salesman, Bob applied his skills across many different fields after his radio days, including steak and seafood (or as he called it, "dead fish.") For the last two decades of his career, he worked as an insurance agent for Esurance/Allstate.

Bob had a passion for the outdoors, particularly camping, boating, fishing, and motorcycles, the last of which he often called "wind therapy." One year, ostensibly taking the family to the Black Hills, Bob decided to keep driving, surprising the kids when they awoke to find themselves in Yellowstone National Park. In 2009, Bob committed himself to sobriety, which he maintained for the rest of his days. Devoutly Catholic, Bob was an active congregant at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls, where he served nearly every weekend either as a lector, a eucharistic minister, or both. He adored his grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed sharing his love of all things outdoors.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Anne of Sioux Falls; his mother Kathryn Lux of Kearney, Nebraska; his children, son Anthony (Diane) of Englewood, Colorado, son Timothy of Sioux Falls, daughter Mercedes (Eric) Lingen of Sioux Falls, and son Nicholas (Breanna) of San Diego, California; his siblings, Joseph (LoAnn) of Rapid City, SD, Dennis (Colleen) of Omaha, Nebraska, Elizabeth (Steve) Walker of Grand Island, Nebraska, Margaret (Rich) Siel of Franklin, Nebraska, David (Mary) of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Patrick (Jayce) of Kearney, Nebraska; as well as grandchildren, Aurora, Theodore, Alexander, Ada, Arabella, Oliver, Avalon, Emily, and Zelie; plus dozens of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond, his infant brother, Peter, and his nephew, Peter.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at The Cathedral of St. Joseph, situated at 521 N. Duluth Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, followed by a liturgical wake service at 6:30 PM and the Rosary. This will take place at the Miller Funeral Home - downtown, located at 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD.

Bob will then be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time as we come together to celebrate a wonderful life and cherish the memories we hold dear.
