Brenda was born on August 20, 1962, to Andy and Joanne (Tofley) Block in Webster, SD. Growing up, Brenda took care of many animals. She especially loved when one of their calves was brought into their living room and bottle fed. She enjoyed raising rabbits and showed many of them at the local fair. Her favorite rabbit, Thumper, would come to her when she clapped her hands and called his name.

Brenda spent many hours working alongside her dad, including building grain elevators. Her dad modified motorcycles so she could ride along with him before her feet could reach the ground.

While attending Webster High School, Brenda worked at A&W and Breske’s Cafe. After graduating, she waitressed at Caesar’s Palace in Aberdeen, and also babysat for her Aunt Nancy. It was during this time that Brenda met Nancy’s friend, Russell DeCurtins, who quickly became the love of her life. Some days Brenda thanked Nancy and others she cursed her out for it.

Brenda and Russell were married on June 28, 1980. Together they raised three children and many litters of puppies. Brenda spent her working days as a bookkeeper. She also ran an in-home daycare for several years.

Brenda loved traveling and planning family vacations. She truly enjoyed the outdoors and taking photographs of nature. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she spent as much time with them as she could.

Over nearly 20 years, Brenda battled 4 cancers. Her longest fight was with CML and she fought hard until the very end. She will be deeply missed by her children: Christopher, Micki (Jason), and Denise (Chad); her grandchildren: William, Alyssa, Langston, Kohen, Gavin, and Emmalyn; her siblings: Jodi (Alan), Lonnie, Rhonda (Mike); her close relatives: Jenny Cummings, and Michael DeCurtins; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Greeting Brenda in heaven will be her husband, her mother and father, and her beloved poodles, Penny and Jojo.
