Brian I. Farmen, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Brian was 68 years old.

Brian Ivar Farmen was born on June 17, 1956, to Frederick "Fred" and Velma "Vickie" (Lucas) Farmen. He was raised in Waukegan, Illinois, and graduated from Waukegan High School in 1974.

After graduating, Brian married Loretta "Lolly" Tollefson, and they had a daughter named Dawn. Brian and Lolly later divorced.

In April of 1976, Brian enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Hampton, Virginia. Later, he was based in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Brian's dedication and leadership were evident as he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. Brian retired after twenty years of service and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1996.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1997, Brian moved to Sioux Falls to be with Michele Johnson. He became a father figure to her two children, Carly and Garrett. Brian started a second career as a car salesman, working for Billion and Vern Eide Motors. After 23 years in the automotive industry, Brian officially retired in 2021.

In his free time, Brian enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and smoking a good cigar. He also loved dining out and always knew the best spots in town. Brian was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Dawn (Nick) Michels of Fargo, ND; stepson, Garrett (Amanda) Walter of Kearney, NE; two grandchildren, Sadie and Coen Michels; sister, Linda Ash of Nixa, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Vicki Farmen; his brother, Randy Farmen; and stepdaughter, Carly Johnson.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 4, 2024, with family present to greet friends at 1:00 PM at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57106. Brian will be interred at the Fargo National Cemetery at a later date.
