Obituary

Candace Rae Cameron, 81, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Dow Rummel Village, Sioux Falls, SD.

Candace was born on October 24, 1943, in Huron, SD, to Curtis and Florence (Sether) Cameron. In addition to Huron, she lived in Bristol, Redfield, Pierpont, and Pierre, SD. Candace graduated from Riggs High School, Class of 1961, in Pierre, SD. She went on to the University of South Dakota and received her BA degree in 1965. While enrolled at the University, she became a member of the Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta Greek Sorority. In 1966, she earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.

Her career began at the public library in 1966 at Huron, SD. Three years later, she accepted the position of Children's Librarian at Escondido, California. Candace served in that position from 1969 to 1999, retiring after thirty years. During her career, she belonged to the Library Association in California and in South Dakota.

After Candace retired, she moved to Sioux Falls in 2000. She became an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. There, she joined a woman's circle, helped with Bible School, and initiated numerous dramatic readings and dramas during Advent and Lenten seasons. For ten years, she worked at Barnes & Noble, helping customers with book selections and doing story time with the children's department.

While Candace had a vocation in the library, her avocation was theater. She was a member of the Escondido Patio Playhouse, where she acted, directed, produced, designed, and sewed costumes, created set designs, and helped with all other aspects of the community theater.

Grateful for sharing her life is her sister, Kay (David) Olson, Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law Curtis Brogren, New Braunfels, TX; nephews Anton Brogren, New Braunfels, TX, and Seth (Lori) Olson, Conroe, TX; nieces Katie (Edward) Marshall, Englewood, CO and Maggie (Jonathan) Tilk, Sioux Falls, SD; great nephew Cameron (CJ) Olson, Conroe, TX; great nieces Cecelia Brogren, New Braunfels, TX, Josie Olson, Conroe, TX, Lily and Harper Tilk, Sioux Falls, SD; Uncle Alvin (Beverly-Deceased) Sether, Wayzata, MN.
