Carol Ann (Imbery) Halvorson peacefully left the earth and passed into the waiting arms of the Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Carol was born on January 14, 1954, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to George and Irene Imbery and was the fifth of twelve siblings. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1972. In 1973, she married her high school sweetheart, Lee Halvorson, and moved to Rochester, Minnesota, in 1975 to begin their life together. They relocated to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1978, where they lived and raised three daughters. Carol was the receptionist/office manager at Empire Chiropractic for over 30 years, and she was a member of Risen Hope Baptist Church.
Carol was never content to sit for long and was always up cleaning, organizing, or baking. She began running as an adult and participated in many local 5K, 10K, and half marathon races. Carol cherished family vacations at the lake and working on various arts and crafts projects. As a wife, she and Lee shared a love strong enough to last 53 years of marriage and a friendship deep enough to make those years happy and fulfilling. As a mom, she was loving and supportive. She was the first call to share heartbreak, provide counsel through tough decisions, celebrate wins, talk through cooking mishaps, or provide advice to soothe a cranky toddler. Without fail, she was at every game, concert, tournament, or event. As a grandma, she doted on her grandchildren who knew her as a sideline cheerleader, cookie baker, and playmate. As a Christian, she worshipped loudly, studied His Word, and strived to live her life as a testament of her faith.
Carol is survived by her husband Lee Halvorson of Sioux Falls, SD; her daughters Jennifer Houwman of Sioux Falls, SD, Jacqueline (Shane) Madsen of Fargo, ND, and Amy (Travis) Olsen of Sioux Falls, SD; her grandchildren Emily and Jacob Torgerson of Sioux Falls, SD, Jorgen and Avery Madsen of Fargo, ND and Rayna and Phoebe Olsen of Sioux Falls, SD; her mother Irene Imbery of Aberdeen, SD; and siblings Sheila (Larry) Haaland of Harrisonburg, VA; Ron (Cathy) Imbery of Eureka, SD; Susan (Gary) Schelske of Redfield, SD; Sharon (Scott) Goodspeed of Aberdeen, SD; John (Coleen) Imbery of Selah, WA; Vickie (Bob) Vanderhoek of Aberdeen, SD; Julie (Dave) Feist of Sioux Falls, SD; Janet Hughes of Aberdeen, SD; Sandy (Mark) Hoerner Frederick, SD; Becky (Dennis) Hinz Frederick, SD; and Jaimie (Tisa) Imbery of Stevensville, MT. She is preceded in death by her father, George Imbery; nephews Michael Schelske and Ryan Imbery; brother-in-law Mike Hughes; and sister-in-law Janet Horan Imbery.
Family Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with the Funeral Service to follow at Noon at the Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st St, Sioux Falls, SD.
