It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear Chantel Johnson. Chantel left us on November 1st in her home in Vermillion, South Dakota, at the tender age of 24.

A visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Harrisburg United Methodist Church. We will come together for a heartfelt funeral service at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025, also at Harrisburg United Methodist Church, located at 204 Grand Avenue, Harrisburg, SD 57032. Following the service, Chantel will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time.

Chantel Julia Rose Johnson was born to her loving parents, Angela (Struss) and Brock Johnson, in Sioux Falls, SD, exactly one year and one day following the birth of her wonderful brother Derek. She attended school in Vermillion, SD, and West Point, NE, before graduating from Harrisburg High School in 2019.

Channie followed up her higher education at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ, and the University of South Dakota, where she completed her first degree in the spring of 2025. While actively pursuing her next degree in Archeology from USD, she worked long hours at Fairfield Inn and Residence Inn in Sioux Falls, where she received awards for her hard work, kindness, and willingness to help.

Chantel's kindness, loving heart, and vibrant spirit touched all. She was intelligent, beautiful, and courageous. She cherished the time spent with her family and her dogs.  She was always ready to share a smile and offer words of encouragement. Her ability to make others feel loved and supported will be forever remembered.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Angela and Dr. David Nelson; siblings, Derek Johnson, Karin (Kyle) Brashler, Ellen (Alex) Oppold, James (Lauren) Nelson, and Dawn Marie Jo Johnson; special cousin Siera Struss; uncles/aunts Chad Struss, Chuck (Kristi) Nelson, Lori Nelson, Jim (Stacy) Johnson, Don (Tonya) Johnson, Dean (GayLene) Johnson; as well many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her father, Brock Johnson; her grandparents, Julie Struss and Smokey Struss; her grandparents, Wes and Gail Nelson; and many others.
