Colleen Hoyme, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Sioux Falls, SD, on December 14, 2024, at the age of 80.

Born on February 23, 1944, in Pipestone, MN, to Benjamin and Alice DeMunck, Colleen grew up with a heart full of love and a spirit of adventure. She graduated from Jasper High School in 1962 and went on to pursue her passion for nursing at Fairview School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN.

Colleen's nursing career was marked by compassion, kindness, and dedication. She worked as an RN at Fairview Hospital, touching countless lives with her care and expertise. She then went on to become a high school nurse in Luverne, MN during the 1970s and 1980s. Later, she became a labor and delivery nurse at McKennan, Sioux Falls for ten years. She finished her nursing career at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, retiring in 2006.

In 1965, Colleen married the love of her life, Larry Hoyme, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. They raised two sons, Craig and Kyle, and were blessed with three grandchildren, Cassandra, Carrie, and Alexa, and four great-grandchildren.

Colleen's love for her family was only matched by her love for her community. She and Larry were active members of Peace Lutheran Church, where Colleen sang in the choir and participated in various church groups. Together, they also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, spreading love and kindness to those in need.

In her free time, Colleen enjoyed exploring the country with Larry in their motor home, visiting friends and family, and taking in the breathtaking beauty of the United States. She was an avid needleworker and knitter, creating countless shawls, blankets, and prayer shawls that brought warmth and comfort to those around her.

Colleen's passing leaves a gaping hole in the lives of those who loved her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will live on through the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Larry; sons, Craig and Kyle; grandchildren, Cassandra and Carrie; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Alexa Hoyme.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Miller Westside Chapel in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church.
