Colleen J. McCann, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, while surrounded by her immediate family. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Miller's Westside Chapel, with a Prayer Service and the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, December 6, 2024, at The Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Colleen was born to Bernard and Helen (Beaner) Kapperman on January 2, 1939 in Humbolt, SD. Colleen grew up and attended school in Hartford, SD along with her 8 other siblings.

After graduating high school, Colleen worked for KELO Land in the Sioux Falls area and then moved to the Minneapolis area, where she worked at Skelly Oil and nannied for a young family who nicknamed her "Kelly." Being a social butterfly, Colleen joined a bowling league, where she met her future husband, Fred. Colleen and Fred were married on October 23, 1965, and were blessed with three children: Jennifer, Gary, and Colleen.

Colleen, Fred, and their family moved about the state of Minnesota, living in Forest Lake, St. Louis Park, Janesville, Alexandria, Farwell, Hoffman, and Morris until returning to the state of South Dakota in the mid-nineties.

Anyone who knew Colleen knew she was not afraid of hard work.  Colleen had various careers but basically made a living out of serving people. She and her husband owned and operated a bowling alley and several restaurants. Her specialty was having fun and it seemed natural for her to begin catering special events.  After returning to Sioux Falls, she served as a Supervisory Cook at the SD State Penitentiary as well as Food Program Director at O'Gorman Catholic Schools.

Colleen was considered a Chaos Coordinator.  Some would say she was "Extra".  She had a talent for adding excitement to everyday life. Colleen could be found sitting down to play dice with the guys over coffee, or playing ridiculous pranks on many unsuspecting victims, all while serving her customers with a smile on her face.  Colleen had a unique ability to get people involved, whether they wanted to be or not!  She could be a cheerleader, matchmaker, and counselor all in the same conversation.  She made the lonely feel welcome and she always had enough food and enough room for everyone.

To keep busy during retirement, she enjoyed travel, grandkids, volunteering, and spending time with her family.  Her faith was extremely important to her.  Attending daily mass, saying the rosary, reading devotions, and sharing God's word with family and friends was her life's mission.

Blessed by being part of Colleen's life were her husband, Fred; her three children and their families, Jennifer and Allen, Hayden and Phoenix Wentzel of Sioux Falls, SD; Gary and Georgia, Connor, Madison, and Carson McCann of Saint Michael, MN; Colleen and Philip, Peyton and Jackson of Wheaton, MN.
