Dane was born in Sioux Falls, SD on April 16th, 2010 to Jackie (Coon) and Rob McCoy. He was a 6th grader at Harrisburg North Middle School.

If you knew Dane, you knew his heart and most importantly his smile. His love for life and his family was unparalleled. He was an avid outdoorsman, with his dad always by his side. He loved more than anything to fish, hunt, and play sports. He was active with Dakota Alliance Soccer Club and Harrisburg Baseball. Dane belonged to St. John Paul II Catholic Parish in Harrisburg, SD.

Dane also had an exceptional sense of direction, in both life and on the road. He could guide you anywhere you wanted to go. He loved demonstrating his Google Earth skills; pick a location and he could find it in 30 seconds.

Dane was an anxious child from an early age and home was his favorite place to be. However, he had grown to manage this anxiousness with his family, counselors, and most importantly his faith in God. He always felt God was watching over him. His last trip, he mentioned that he wasn't even nervous; he felt nothing but excitement.

Dane loved his family deeply. He looked up to his older siblings and couldn't wait for the time when the whole family was together. Family movie nights and game nights were among his favorite things to do when we were all together. He also lived for the weekends he could visit with extended family and get some "cousin time". He was heard many times saying, "we have the best family ever!" His future dream was to design Chevy cars, live in the mountains, and drive a Chevy Colorado. He wanted to have a second home in Jackie's hometown of Early, Iowa.

Dane was a friend to everyone and loved his closest friends with a fierce loyalty. Those that knew his friendship were talked about often. To his neighbors, teammates, and classmates, know that he was devoted to you - and you were loved.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ella Mae (Bunny) McCoy and a sibling who we've never met, born into Heaven. He is survived by his parents, Jackie and Rob McCoy; his siblings, Blake, Olivia, and Reece; his grandparents, Jim and Bonnee Coon, and Roger McCoy; many aunts, uncles, beloved cousins, and many, many friends.
