Daniel Jacob
Krause
Aug 20, 1940 — May 18, 2025
Browns Valley
Daniel Krause died on May 18, 2025 at the age of 84 at Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD, with his family by his side, comforting him. Daniel was born in Cromwell Township MN to Earl and Margaret. He attended high school in Hawley, earned a Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering at North Dakota State University and a PhD in Electrical Engineering at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO.
He began his career at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, returning to NDSU to teach. He earned a tenured position at North Dakota State University becoming a professor emeritus of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He co-authored a series of textbooks for teaching probability theory with John Enderle and David Farden, still used today. You could tell when Dan arrived at work because you could hear the sound of his laughter. Passionate about teaching, even his tests had a bit of his sense of humor embedded in the questions. Students and staff adored him.
In 1962, he married the love of his life. You'd often see them holding hands and smiling at each other even into Dan's final days. After his PhD, they moved to Fargo, ND, where they raised three daughters. They spent over 60 years together sharing many passions, most focused on nature and conservation, wildlife and improving the environment. He loved spending time with family and friends gardening, hunting, camping, traveling, mushroom hunting, cooking amazing food and planting 12,000 trees which grew into a beautiful forest. Dan was also a fantastic winemaker.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, two sons in law, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
He was a brilliant loving man and will be dearly missed by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14 at the Wilmot Convention Center from 2-4 pm. Please RSVP here.
In support of life-long conservation efforts, Daniel wanted 10,000 trees planted after his death, so we ask that in lieu of flowers, plant trees on your land or donate to any of the following organizations. Sustaining old forests is extremely important. Let us know by signing the guestbook with how many trees you planted and where.
