Darryl Van Vooren, 84, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospice in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel, with visitation beginning one hour prior.

Darryl Van Vooren was born in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, on September 15, 1941. Darryl was adopted at a young age.  He was raised on the family farm outside Garretson.

Darryl graduated from Garretson High School in 1959.  He served in the Air Force from 1961-1965; followed by 2 years in the Air Force Reserves until 1967.

Upon his return to South Dakota, he joined Sunshine Food Market and began a 40+ year career in the meat department as a meat cutter. After he retired from Sunshine, he spent an additional 10 years with Kellogg's as a merchandiser.

Darryl met the love of his life in the early 70's. He married Ardis Huether on May 4, 1974.  They were married for 41 years until Ardis passed on November 29, 2015.

Darryl was an avid outdoorsman. His passion was chasing trophy walleye throughout South Dakota and Canada with multiple fish over 13 pounds to his credit. He also enjoyed hunting upland game and waterfowl.

Darryl is preceded in death by his wife, Ardis; his biological parents, Clyde and Mattie Blow; and his adopted parents, Clyde and Florence VanVooren.

He is survived by his two stepchildren, Michael Huether (Amy) and Lisa Banks (Leon); and six grandchildren, Lexie, Annabelle, Jackson, Jeffrey, Lily, and Jude.
