Obituary

David H. Rangel, a beloved member of the Sioux Falls community, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center at the age of 58. His absence leaves a profound void in the lives of many who knew and loved him.

Born on June 11, 1967, in Fowler, Fresno County, California, to Severine and Mary (Hernandez) Rangel, David was the twelfth of thirteen children. He graduated from Tranquility Union High School in 1986, embarking on a life dedicated to faith and service.

On August 13, 1988, David married his soulmate, Estella Garza, at New Life Apostolic Church in Merced, California. Together, they created a loving home in Merced and raised two wonderful children, Dinorah and David "DJ" Jr.

In 1989, answering the call to serve, David became a minister through the Apostolic Community Organization under the guidance of Joe Aguilar, Sr., Pastor of New Life Apostolic Church. His heartfelt dedication led him to serve as the senior pastor of New Life Community Church in Dos Palos, where he touched countless lives over nine years.

In 2011, David and his family moved to Sioux Falls to support his brother Isaiah in church ministry. Sadly, after a year, David faced significant health challenges. His journey included starting dialysis in 2012 and experiencing vision loss in 2020. Despite these trials, David's spirit remained uplifting, and he bravely took on the challenge of learning Braille.

Those who knew David cherished his deep spiritual connection with God. His life was a testament to his faith, and his passions included praising the Lord, teaching, preaching, and providing compassionate marital counseling. He also found joy in singing and spending precious moments with his family.

David leaves behind his loving wife, Estella, who was his partner and confidante; his two devoted children, Dinorah (Jay-Don) Younger of Sioux Falls and David "DJ" Rangel Jr. of Hastings, Nebraska; and his five dear grandchildren, Zion, Zedekiah, Zoltin, Zamar, and Zacardi, who brought him immense joy. Also mourning his loss are his ten siblings: Severino (JoAnn) Rangel Jr. of Merced, CA; Mary Ortiz of Merced, CA; Maryalice (Artemio) Lugo of Mendota, CA; Rosie (Sarge) Ruiz of Merced, CA; Jesse Rangel of Merced, CA; Richard (Mary) Rangel of Dos Palos, CA; Frances Leon of Dallas, TX; Jamie Granados of Merced, CA; Esther Rangel of Merced, CA; and Isaiah Rangel of Merced, CA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who were touched by his kindness and love.

David is now reunited with his parents, Severino Sr. and Mary Rangel; his brother, Sammy Rangel; and his sister, Esther Elizabeth Rangel, whom he missed dearly.

Funeral services will be held in Merced, California, where his family and friends can honor his memory. He will be laid to rest at Dos Palos Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life for David will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at The Apostolic Church of Sioux Falls, located at 2220 W. Burnside Street, Sioux Falls, SD.

David's family wishes to express their gratitude to the community for coming together to honor and remember a remarkable man who made a significant impact on everyone around him.
