David was born on March 13th, 1961 in Sioux Falls, to Edward Jr. and Elaine Widman. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1979, and then had a long career in the building industry. Growing up he helped his father build and remodel homes then worked for Schoeneman's, Interior Wood Products where he met his wife Donna, and then Building Products Incorporated. In the last decade, David worked for Christ the King Elementary School as a custodian, where he enjoyed interacting with all of the children and was known as Mr. Dave.

David and Donna were married on June 28, 1986, at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD. They started their life together and welcomed their two sons, Nicholas and Christopher.

David enjoyed spending time with his family and causing mischief with his lifelong friends Denny Hartman and Don Molstad. You could often find him in his garage with his latest woodworking project or out cruising the loop in his beloved 1972 Grand Prix.
