Obituary

Dexter Lynn Brock went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 4th, 2025, at the Sioux Falls VA Hospice Cottage at the age of 83 years. A celebration of life service will be held July 9th at Living Word Free Lutheran Church with visitation at 9:00 am and funeral service at 10:00 am. Lunch will follow, and then interment will be in the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 25965 477th Ave, Sioux Falls, SD. The service will be live-streamed at https://livingwordfreelutheran.org/watch

Dexter was born on January 21, 1942, in Lubbock, Texas, to Clarence and Irene Waller Brock. He worked at several odd jobs growing up, including a livestock sale barn and a used car lot.

He served in the US Army Signal Corps in Italy for three years. Dexter had a passion for his country and decided to reenlist and serve another three years in Vietnam.

He was devoted to his wife, Kay, for 32 years, whom he met in Fremont, California.

Dexter's end-of-life years were difficult for him and his caregivers as he suffered the effects of vascular dementia.

Prior to that, Dexter loved life, his Lord, and his family.  His love for motorcycles, high-performance cars, and car racing was no secret. He also loved fishing. And who can forget his signature hat?

Dexter is survived by his wife, Kay; brother, Garland Brock; and sister, Elizabeth Beard. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clarence Jr.
