Doloris "Dee"
Arlene Owens
Mar 15, 1941 — Oct 2, 2024
Sioux Falls
Doloris "Dee" Owens, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend passed away October 2, 2024, at the age of 83.
Dee was born to Edwin and Esther Odefey on March 15, 1941, in Gregory, SD. She resided in Platte, SD where she graduated from Platte High School in 1959. She attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD. After college, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in the engineering department until the birth of her first child when she then became a homemaker.
Dee was joined in marriage to Frank Owens on October 26, 1968, at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD. They were just shy of celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary later this month.
Dee was a loving wife to Frank, a selfless mother to their three daughters, and a proud grandmother of seven. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into nurturing them with kindness, love, and unwavering support. She found immense happiness in volunteering at her daughters' school activities, being active in Girl Scouts, reading and playing games with her grandchildren, and attending numerous sports activities.
A devout Catholic, Dee lived her faith with grace and compassion, touching the lives of many through her kindness and generosity. She was an active parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church, never missing Mass and continued to participate each Sunday watching TV Mass when her health no longer allowed her to attend in person. She said the Rosary daily, served as the funeral luncheon director, was an active member of the church guild for many years, and her creative talent helped make Fall Church Banquets a success.
Dee's artistic talents were one of her many gifts. She devoted hours to making beautiful greeting cards and scrapbooks, decorating rooms, baking cakes and cookies, creating wreaths and floral arrangements, and sewing.
Dee is survived by her devoted husband, Frank; their daughters: Kathy (James) Wipf and Julie (Mike) Limmer – both of Sioux Falls, Patty (Doug) Bunt of Cumming, GA; grandchildren: Nicholas and Maggie Wipf, Jake and Josh (Taylyn) Limmer, and Benjamin and Matthew Bunt; siblings: Arnold (Jean) Odefey of Savage, MN, Lois Bynum of Phoenix, AZ, and Lee Owens of Kona, HI; many nephews and nieces including Marilee Maxwell of Rogers, MN who mailed weekly handwritten cards, and many special friends including Maureen Richardson and Barb Lockrem.
Dee was proceeded in death by her parents Edwin and Esther Odefey, her brother Marv Odefey, and her grandson Jackson Bunt.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to be directed to Good Samaritan Luther Manor, Avera at Home Hospice or The Banquet. The family wishes to thank you for all your prayers and kindness shown throughout Dee's dementia journey, especially to her caregivers at Luther Manor.
