Donald Edward Bittner, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at his home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home – Downtown Chapel (507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD). Family will be gathering for an informal Celebration and Toast to Don following services at Shenanigan's Sports Bar and Grill (1903 S Ellis Rd., Sioux Falls, SD). Family prefers memorials be made to a charity of your choosing in Don's honor in lieu of flowers.
Don was born on March 21, 1960 to Harold and Mary (Lounsbery) Bittner in Tripp, South Dakota. He attended high school in Tripp, going on to later attend college at Springfield College and the University of South Dakota. Don earned his degree in computer science. He would go on to work at Johnson Control and later Climate Systems. He was also an owner and operator of Shore Store Bar on Swan Lake in Viborg, South Dakota.
On December 18, 2015, Don married Patti. The couple loved to camp and be outdoors, leading to their lifestyle of living in an RV and traveling about the United States. Don's favorite place to visit was the Black Hills, but the couple also started wintering in Texas over the last few years. Don was an active outdoorsman, and you would often find him fishing, rock climbing, or just enjoying nature.
Don enjoyed being active and playing sports, still holding many state records for swimming, track, and basketball. He was involved in coaching sports. Other hobbies that he enjoyed include bowling, golfing, and riding his Harley. Don was also known to be able to fix just about anything that needed repair.
Above all else, Don loved life. He had an infectious booming laugh that would put all around him in a good mood. He was the life of the party and made friends with ease. He was an amazing cook and dancer, which in turn made Don quite the entertainer. He loved loud music and would sing his heart out during karaoke. Don was known as a "second dad" to his kids' friends. He was always there for the people around him, and would help anyone that needed it, no matter what. He will be missed immeasurably.
Grateful for sharing Don's life with him are his wife, Patti Bittner of Sioux Falls, SD; his daughter, Rachel (Mike) Noonan of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Jenna, Jade and Jovie; his son, Anthony Bittner and his fiancé Rashel, and their children Archie, Zaiden, and Felicity of North Sioux City, SD; his step-daughter, Lexi Bohn of Sioux Falls, SD; his mother, Mary Bittner; his brother, Bill (Janelle) Bittner; his sisters, Barb (Mark) Wiechman, Kathy (Pat) Feuerhelm, Jo (Mike) Ehresmann, Pat (Dave) Konrad, Terry (Al) Konrad, Nancy (Steve) Konrad, and Ann (Scott) Nice; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Bittner.
