Obituary

Douglas W. Skinlo, 76, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Monday, May 19, at Miller Funeral Home Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.

Graveside Rites will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 20, at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 25965 477th Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57104.

Douglas Wayne Skinlo, son of Emil and Gladys (Thompson) Skinlo, was born August 3, 1948 in Sioux Falls, SD.  He grew up in a large family of eight children.  He attended Laura B. Anderson Elementary, Whittier Middle School and Washington High School.  He left school early to join the US Army during the Vietnam Era.  He spent some time serving in Germany.  He returned home and became a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard.

After Doug's honorable discharge from the military, he worked a few construction jobs before landing at Soukup Construction in 1982, where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator on demolitions and excavating.  He worked with them for over 33 years retiring in 2015.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and rummage sales.  He was very talented with machinery and small engines.  He would restore and fix lawnmowers and sell them.  In his later years he became quite content and humble man who enjoyed watching television.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter and son-in-law, Carrie (Jesse) Boysen and their children, Tessa, Grady and Dylan all of Larchwood, IA; six siblings, Roger Skinlo, Eugene, OR, Gary Skinlo, Sioux Falls, SD, Carol Denbow, Sioux Falls, SD, Patty Arends, Worthington, MN, Bonnie Spillman, Coco Beach, FL, Connie Todd, Coco Beach FL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jason Gieselman; and a sister, Judy Craig.
