Duane M. Noerenberg, age 88 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away Monday, July 21st, 2025, at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A visitation with family present will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57106. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1300 S. Sertoma Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57106. Private interment will take place at a later date at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Worthington, MN.

Duane Melvin Noerenberg, born February 28, 1937, in Audubon, IA to Walter H.C. and Ethel G. (Lacy) Noerenberg, died July 21, 2025 in Sioux Falls, SD.

In 1938, the family moved to Worthington, MN, where he graduated from Worthington H.S. (1955) and Junior College (AA, 1957), and Valparaiso University (BA, 1959) Business & Economics, where he was Yearbook Editor. Duane attended Temple University's Graduate School of Business.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard (IN & MN), including a tour of active duty.

Duane attended St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, where he met and married his wife, Joan (Banister), in October 1960. He remained deeply involved in church life throughout the years, actively participating in congregations as an officer on the boards, taught Sunday School and adult education programs in Worthington, (MN), Willow Grove, (PA), Owatonna (MN), and  Sioux Falls, (SD).

Wherever they lived, Duane planted trees, and bushes (berry) to attract birds and hedges (rose, etc.).  (Gardening came from his father who grew up on an Iowa farm and loved rose bushes).

Duane became involved with Rotary International as a business student and remained dedicated throughout his life. He especially valued working with international students, fostering fellowships, and supporting polio eradication efforts. His commitment earned him recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow and President of his Minnesota Rotary club. The family also hosted two AFS international students from Argentina and Italy and mentored several transitional students.

He started his career in business early---selling garden and flower seeds door to door in his hometown as a junior high school student. This led to a career in journalism & photography via freelancing, wedding photography, and newspaper work.

After college, Duane began his career as a business/regional reporter and photographer. He joined Jostens, a Fortune 500 company, where he launched the public relations department, worked in personnel, and later established the systems department. His career took the family to Philadelphia, PA, before returning to Minnesota. After 25 years with Jostens, Duane founded GBS, a business counseling and tax practice in Sioux Falls, SD. He became an IRS Enrolled Agent, advising small businesses and individuals.

Duane was an active member of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on both the Small Business Council and the Diplomats Committee. After 28 years as a dedicated Diplomat, he was honored in 2016 as the first to receive the Diplomat Emeritus title.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Noerenberg; their three children: Terri Maguire (Redwood Falls, MN), Scott (Karin) Noerenberg (Hopkins, MN), and Amy (Bill) Cauble (Sioux Falls, SD). He is lovingly remembered by Marcelo (Jose) Montero (Minnetonka, MN), and Mariangela Brutti (Vancouver, Canada). His legacy lives on through eight grandchildren: Tricia (Justin) Baune; Caitlin (Craig) Kodet; Taylor (Lyz LaBlanc) Maguire; Shea (Kyle) Keenan; Ellis (Vanessa) Noerenberg; Griffin Noerenberg, Brita (Aric) Spader; Murphy (Chaise Knutson) Cauble; ten great-grandchildren: Gretchen, Peyton, and Camden Baune; Hailey, Walter, Merit, and Quinn Kodet; Kinsley and Bonnie Maguire; Charlie Spader; and eight step-great grandchildren: Maverick, Anais, Lluvia, Santana, Clara, Mary, Tommy, and Lizzy. Fondly remembering him are his brother, Gary (Vaunda) Noerenberg (Marietta, GA); and sisters-in-law: Virginia (Gary) Beck (Jacksonville, FL), Susan (Matt) Beaudin, (Jacksonville, FL), and Cynthia (David) Dirks (Carlos, MN); Doris Christensen. He is also survived by numerous "bonus" grandchildren: Manuel, Juan, Maria (Maria Sol), and Belen Montero; Carlotta and Phillipe Brutti; and Aliceson, Awna, and Isabel Cournoyer; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. In addition, Duane is survived by Jean Noerenberg and David Maguire.
