Obituary

Betty Kilpatrick, age 97 formerly of Sioux Falls, SD, died Sunday, September 8, 2024, in Tyndall, SD. Family will greet friends from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 16th at St. Michael Catholic Church 1600 S. Marion Road, Sioux Falls, with burial at 3:00 PM at the Esterly Cemetery, Florence, SD. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the sender's choice.

Elizabeth was born February 17, 1927, in Sioux Falls, SD.  She was lovingly adopted by Anna (Dorn) and William Ronke at the age of 6 months. The family lived in Florence, SD, where Betty graduated from high school in 1944. She married Manly Owen in 1949 in Florence and in 1950 the couple moved to Milwaukee, WI. Betty worked as a crane operator at Allis Chalmers while in Milwaukee. In 1953 the couple moved to Florence, SD where they operated a local tavern until 1958.

After their marriage dissolved, Betty moved to Watertown, SD. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Betty worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store. She married Donald Kilpatirck, on March 23, 1974, in Watertown. Betty then worked for the Super Value Grocery Store and later for Inter-Lakes Community Action from 1974 until 1978. The couple then moved to Sioux Falls where Betty worked for 21 years at McKennan Hospital in medical records, before retiring. Don preceded her in death on April 17, 2018.

Betty was member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Ladies of the Moose Auxiliary, and V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved to cook, rummage sales, playing cards, and fishing.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Mary (Tim) Wingen, Sioux Falls, SD, Mike (Shannon) Owen, Yankton, SD; 2 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother Norbert.
