Obituary

Elon Avtjoglou, 75, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Saturday, May 10, at Miller Funeral Home Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Elon Palaschak Avtjoglou was born February 4, 1950, in Hopewell New Jersey, to John and Lucy (Morgan) Palaschak.

She attended Hopewell Township Schools.  She was admitted early and graduated, in three years, from Duke University in 1972.  After graduating, she was one of the first female sales representatives for Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company.  She fondly remembers travelling to college campuses to sell her textbooks.

After a torrid five-year love letter romance, she went to South Africa and married Andreas Avtjoglou in Johannesburg on September 15, 1976.  After briefly considering residency in Brazil, they relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to be close her dear sister Susan.

Her first daughter, and arguably the smartest one, was born June 16, 1977.  After multiple relocations her second and favorite daughter was born on April 22, 1979 in Memphis TN.  She spent every summer travelling the world with her two daughters.

Elon dedicated her life to raising her children and taking care of her family.  She enjoyed volunteering at the local school through the PTA and as substitute teacher.

In her later years, she was emancipated by a favorable divorce settlement.  She ventured to Florida and California and touched many lives along the way.  She eventually settled in South Dakota in 2015 to be close to Andrea and her two grandsons, Aleksandros and Alonso.  Once Justine and her other grandson Lydon relocated to Sioux Falls in 2022, Elon's life was complete.

She continued to travel.  Raising and guiding her grandsons provided her with great joy.

A life long progressive and Democrat, she was cherished for her well-informed political views which she enjoyed debating.  She kept abreast of current events and enjoyed updating her circle of friends and family of the latest trends.

She was skilled at maintaining friendships worldwide, always ready with advice or a generous helping hand.

We remember Elon Avtjoglou who passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025.  She is already missed.
