Enid Ailis Messerli, 43, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the loyal companionship of her beloved dogs, Rosie and Boo.

Born on July 13, 1981, in Sturgis, South Dakota, Enid was the daughter of Patricia McDonald and Tom Messerli. She spent her early years in Sturgis before relocating with her family to Tucson, Arizona, where she graduated from Flowing Wells High School in 1999. Enid went on to earn her degree in Anthropology and Spanish from the University of Arizona in May 2010.

With a deep curiosity about the world and a love for history inherited from her father, Enid pursued a fulfilling career as a professional archaeologist. Her work reflected her passion for discovery, preservation, and understanding the human past.

Enid's life was filled with love for her family, especially her nieces, Charlie and Pilar, and her sister and best friend, Kendall. Her dogs, Boo and Rosie, were constant companions and a source of comfort and joy. Enid also cherished time spent in nature. Whether fly fishing, riding horses, camping, or embarking on road trip adventures with her nieces, she found peace and happiness outdoors—especially near rivers and lakes shared with friends and family.

Enid is survived by her father, Tom Messerli (Jeanne) of New Mexico; her sister, Kendall Messerli-Prophet (Chris); and her adored nieces, Charlie and Pilar Prophet of California. She is also survived by her aunt Lori Skadsen (Dennis) of South Dakota; Uncle Jim (Megan) McDonald; cousins Jessica, Nathan (Emily), Molly, Ian (Maddie) and Ryan; and extended family Jayden and Jovie (children of Jessica), Evelyn and Viola (children of Nathan), and Aria and Ariel (children of Ryan)—as well as her faithful pups, Rosie and Boo.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia McDonald; grandfather, Joseph Bernard; grandmother, Deloris McDonald; aunt, Cynthia Lappegard; cousin, Eric Lappegard; and great-grandparents, Doris and Lyle Skillman.

Enid will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her deep compassion, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Her memory lives on in the lives she touched, the stories she uncovered, and the trails she walked.
