Evelyn "Evy" Kay Meier, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church (1400 S Duluth Ave., Sioux Falls, SD). Family will be present for visitation from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home – Downtown Chapel (507 S Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD).

Evy was born on December 21, 1940 to August and Dorothy (Scribner) Meier in Devil's Lake, North Dakota. The family moved to White Lake, South Dakota where Evy grew up and attended school. She then went attended Nettleton Career College earning her accounting degree.

Evy worked at Regen Insurance and continued to work with them as they became Western Surety and later American States Insurance. She was recognized and awarded with South Dakota Women's Woman of the Year Award for her contributions. She also worked as a waitress for a variety of businesses, including Giovanni's Steak House, The Pomp Room and Kirk's Cafe. Evy last worked at Ramkota as an events coordinator and managing the catering department, where she was loved by many.

With a wonderful smile and good humor, Evy made friends with, what would seem like, the whole town. She knew and was loved by so many people and was devoted to her community. Social and generous, Evy was an active volunteer giving her time and talents to groups like the Red Cross and multiple church groups at Zion Lutheran. She taught Sunday school, always attended Bible study and was known to many as the "donut lady". Evy served as the Banquet coordinator at Zion Lutheran, organizing the volunteers four times a year to help feed those less fortunate. She genuinely cared for others in a way that touched the lives of so many.

Evy was an avid sports fan. She was a season ticket holder for both the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Skyforce teams. She was also a gifted bowler and was in the Sioux Falls Bowling Hall of Fame and the South Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame, even ranking nationally. Evy was even a junior bowling coach, working with youth leagues for years. She also enjoyed golfing. Evy was a wonderful aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt who absolutely adored spending time with the kids, playing with them on the floor and lighting up in their presence.

Grateful to have shared Evy's life with her are her sisters, Marlis Hansen and Shirlee Meier; her nieces and nephews, John Hansen, Luc Desroches, Pamela Frost, Bette Dorman, Duane Dorman, Roger Schmidt, and Laurie Hansen; several great- and great-great- nieces and nephews too numerous to list; and so many friends and loved ones that she made over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, August and Dorothy Meier; her siblings, Beverly LaBeau and Dakota Wells; and her nephews, David Dorman, Shaun Meier, and Anthony Hansen.
