Everett E. Jones, Canton, SD, died March 9, 2026, in Canton, SD.  He was 66.

Everett "Ed" Edwin Jones was born January 5, 1960, in Springfield, Missouri, to Doris Ann (DeBlauw) and Everett Ernest Jones. After the untimely passing of his mother, Ed went to live with his maternal grandparents, Martin and Dorothy DeBlauw, in Crofton, Nebraska. With additional support from his uncle Roger and his wife Nancy DeBlauw, Ed was raised in an extended family environment. During this time, he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors—farming, hunting, and especially fishing. He was also active in school sports and later became a state champion cross-country runner.

After graduating from Crofton High School, Ed briefly attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln before entering the workforce. In 1980, he joined the Army National Guard and completed basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. During his service, he was stationed in Yankton, South Dakota, where he met Bonnie Lou White. They were married on July 3, 1980, and together they welcomed five children: Lutisha, Jared, Ava, Chelcie, and Isaac.

Ed served his country honorably until his discharge in 1986. During his time in the Guard, he served as a cannon crewman and earned Expert ratings with the M16 rifle and hand grenade. Following his military service, he dedicated himself to supporting his family and became a master drywall finisher. His craftsmanship can be found throughout Sioux City—in businesses, churches, apartments, and homes alike. In many ways, his work surrounds us.

After his divorce from Bonnie, Ed moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A few years later, he met and eventually married Charlene "Char" Dejabet. During this time, Ed also became a proud grandfather to Lutisha's children. From his marriage to Char, they welcomed a son, Tier. The family later relocated to Canton, South Dakota, where Ed spent his final working years at Adams Thermal Systems, Inc. After Char's unexpected passing, Ed lovingly raised Tier on his own and with the help of his special friend, Mona.

In the later years of his life, Ed underwent several surgeries due to the wear and tear of many years in his trade and faced ongoing health challenges. Though his passing was unexpected, we find comfort in knowing he is now free from pain and worldly struggles. We imagine him once again running, hunting, fishing, laughing, enjoying his Camel Lights, and drinking all the coffee he wants.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Ed is survived by his children: Lutisha Ann (Jeremy) Dumkrieger; Jared Michael (Shirlena Saul) Jones; Ava Christine (James "Jim" Barrier) Jones; Chelcie Rhae (Josue Orellano) Jones; Isaac Martin Jones; and Tier Ryan Jones; and his grandchildren, Bernadette Mackenzie Dumkrieger and Tristan Andrew Dumkrieger.

He is also survived by his siblings: Stanley "Stan" Jones of Winterset, Iowa; Yona (Bud) Wenick of Washougal, Washington; Mike (Laurie) Hayek-Jones of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; and Alton Jones, Chris Jones, and Steve Jones, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Martin and Dorothy (Ausdemore) DeBlauw; his paternal grandparents, Stanley and Rebecca (Philbrick) Jones; his sister, Barbara Jean; and his brothers, Clement Jones, Steve Jones, and Nick Jones.

Catholic Church Service will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Constance, NE at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with a luncheon following the service. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.
