Gary Lee Basche passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

He was born on April 1, 1955, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Growing up in the area, he attended South Sioux Grade School and Patrick Henry Junior High before graduating from Lincoln High School.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan (Sue); his daughter, Leslie; his parents, Dorothy and Leslie; his brothers, Eugene and Rodger; and his sister, Debora (Deb). He is survived by his daughter, Katherine (Katie); his sisters, Linda and Carolyn; and his brother, Bob.

A Life Defined by Joy, Connection, and the Outdoors

Gary possessed a lifelong passion for music, a love that ultimately led him to meet the absolute love of his life, Sue. His deep appreciation for music was obvious to anyone who ever caught a glimpse of his extensive record collection.

True to his deeply gregarious nature, Gary was incredibly outgoing, social, and genuinely fond of the company of others. He was the kind of person who ensured you always had a great time whenever you were with him. Exceptionally selfless, he was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He brought a strong work ethic to everything he did, taking immense pride in his tasks.

Gary truly thrived when surrounded by friends and family. He made new friends effortlessly, and many of those bonds lasted a lifetime. You couldn't help but smile whenever he was in the room. He was loved by so many, gone far too soon, and will be missed immensely.

The celebration is set for Sunday, July 19th, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the lakeside patio at Hook & Ladder Kitchen and Bar located at 323 S. Whitewood Circle SF, SD 57107.

Burgers and brats are provided, and guests are encouraged to bring a favorite side dish to share. The event will also feature a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle to commemorate the life he lived, the music he loved, and the many hearts he touched.
