Gary was born to Marlene (Nace) and Carl Schumm in Dell Rapids on October 2, 1963.

Gary graduated from Washington High School and very shortly after started his career at StarMark Cabinetry. He enjoyed a long and dedicated career there until his health forced him to retire in early 2026.

Gary was a sports fan. In his younger years he enjoyed participating in football, baseball, golfing and hunting. As the years passed it was easier to watch the sports than participate. And that is when he added watching the car races. Throughout his life he was an avid Dallas Cowboy’s fan. He rarely missed a football game they played!

Gary is survived by his father, Carl, Sioux Falls; brother Steve Schumm, Sioux Falls and sister Mary (Steven) Goldade, Florence SD, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by mother, Marlene Schumm.
