George D. Breen, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Dougherty House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel (507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls). The family will greet friends for visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Monday, July 13, 2026, also at the funeral home.

George D. Breen was born on December 16, 1936, in Armour, South Dakota, to William and Marion (Herron) Breen. George was the 4th of 9 children. After his mother's passing when he was 13, George and his sister LaDonna moved to Vivian, South Dakota, to live with their aunt and uncle, Jennie and Joe Hansler, where he developed his love of horses and farm life. George enjoyed spending time with his sister and cousins and was a member of the Vivian High School basketball team.

After leaving high school, George joined the Navy. He served his country for four years as a crewman on aircraft carriers between the South Pacific and Hawaii. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he went to work as a truck driver.

In 1959, George married his forever love, Lorraine Brewer. The two married at First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls, SD, and spent 67 years together. They were blessed to have three children: George, Vikki, and Gerry.

George continued to drive truck through his career and was home with Lorraine and the kids every night. He liked to stay busy and enjoyed farming while he wasn't on the road. In 1993, he and Lorraine moved to Baltic, their forever home and farm. He loved spending hours tinkering in the tractor, driving his side-by-side, and spending time with his family during weekly Sunday dinner. He even restored a covered wagon and participated in the South Dakota Centennial Wagon Train with his team of Belgian horses. George retired from truck driving in 1998 but never slowed down. He continued to farm and became a full-time babysitter, a role he greatly enjoyed. When he wasn't on the farm, George enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting, musical, and theatre events. He reluctantly enjoyed many road trips to Florida to see family and camping at lakes and state parks around the area.

George was a proud grandpa but became elated with a new title of "Grampy". He leaves behind a legacy with his 6 great grandchildren who he enjoyed spending time with. He especially loved picking out new outfits and toys to surprise them with and allowing them to have as many of his homemade chocolate chip cookies as they wanted.

George is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children, George (Cindy Crisp) Breen, Vikki Breen, and Gerry (Teresa) Breen; grandchildren, Joseph (Lindsey) Breen, Katelyn (Jake) Conover, and Cody (Rachel) Breen; six great-grandchildren, Cecily, JR, Lyla, Briar, Connor, and Hayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marion; siblings, William Breen, Leonard Breen, Hurley Breen, Connie Vincent; and treasured aunt and uncle, Jennie and Joe.
