Jun 29, 1944 — May 3, 2026
Sioux Falls
George Dann, died May 3, 2026, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was 81 years old.
George Kenneth Dann was born in Beresford to Kenneth and Elna Nelson Dann on June 29, 1944. He resided with his parents and three sisters in the Beresford and Canton areas. He graduated from Canton High School in 1962. Following high school, he worked for Souvignier Trucking and Huntting Elevator. He started at the elevator in Canton and was promoted to manager at the elevator in Tea, South Dakota in 1973.
On August 1, 1970, he was united in marriage to his best friend Gail Colvin in Bridgewater. In 1973, the couple was overjoyed to welcome son Timothy Alan and later daughter Lisa Lynne. He and Gail shared a blessed family life in Tea. He loved animals all his life and shared that passion with his children with a menagerie of farm animals on their acreage near Tea. Here he could be found with his beloved dog Jacksen by his side. After 25 years with Huntting Elevator, he retired and later worked as a groundskeeper at Bakker Crossing Golf Course. In 2010 George and Gail moved to Sioux Falls.
George enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada and hunting time in the Hills. He spent 35 years following his son and later his grandson as they raced stock cars. He could often be found Saturday afternoons supervising as the boys prepared for the races. He also loved to follow his granddaughters many soccer games and school events. George and Gail spent many winters in Texas where he enjoyed the warm weather and watching the ships come in. In later years, George could be found in his wood shop building barns, dollhouses, and miniature race tracks. His friends, neighbors, and local delivery men will remember George for sitting in the driveway with his fire pit blazing, reading and visiting with anyone who happened by.
George was the most loving and patient husband, father, and Grandpa anyone could ever ask for. His family has been blessed by this amazing, wonderful and kind man who will be deeply missed by so many.
Grateful to have shared his life are Gail, his wife of 55 years; son Tim Dann (Rebecca), daughter Lisa Aymar (Tom Witham), grandchildren, Kayla Aymar (Sage Oltmanns), Amber Aymar, Travis Dann, Allison Dann, and Brenden Witham; and sister Vicki Burwell (Jack). He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Diana Sage and Joan Wegener.
