Glen Edwin Poppinga, 80, passed away at the VA Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls on December 12th, supported by his loving family.

The family will be present for a visitation from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday, December 28th at Miller Funeral Home Westside, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, December 29th, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 1401 S. Covell Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD. Burial will be at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Glen was born on January 24, 1945, on the family farm near Lennox, the third of five children. He valued education and maintained perfect attendance at school for many years, where he thrived in sports, starting on the basketball team at Lennox High and later at Sioux Falls College. It was there that he met Diana Sherman, a fellow farm girl, who would become his wife of 58 years.

Glen and Diana settled in Sioux Falls, where he began a long career in financial aid, first at Sioux Falls College (USF) and then at Kilian Community College. He was an excellent colleague and enjoyed helping students navigate the process of paying for school. Glen loved being a father and grandfather to daughter Dionne Pignataro (Steve); their children, Hannah and Andrew; son Eric Poppinga (Amy); and their sons, Cole and Luke. Known to his grandchildren as both "Grandpa" and "Pop," he enjoyed supporting them all in their academic and athletic endeavors; celebrating milestones, attending events, coaching, and watching games across the country and even the world!

Glen was endlessly active and made the most of life in South Dakota. He was an avid angler, hunter, and golfer. He loved that these activities gave him opportunities to fellowship with his many friends and family members. He enjoyed yearly trips to Canada and weekly trips to Chamberlain to fish with his best buddies. He never missed coffee group if he could help it, and he enjoyed serving as an usher at First Baptist Church, where he was a member for more than 60 years. Glen was a proud veteran who had served his country in Vietnam, and he deeply loved the USA.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Glen is survived by siblings Alan Poppinga (Carol), Joyce Sisson, and Ruth Sperling (Stan). He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Hilka Poppinga, and his sister, Mavis Carlson.
