Jacob Charles Haan was born on April 27, 2025, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and from the very first moment, he brought a remarkable joy to those around him. A truly easygoing newborn, Jacob was a precious gift who rarely fussed, who slept through the night, and was patient with everyone. His gentle spirit brightened the lives of everyone he met. He found joy in his morning coos and babbles, eagerly engaging with anyone nearby. His bond with his big brother and sister was heartwarming, as he giggled and smiled with delight when they would talk and play with him. Though his time on earth was brief—just 3 months and 21 days—Jacob's laughter and sweet smiles filled hearts with warmth and love.
Jacob's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his adoring parents, Luke and Christa Haan; his devoted siblings, Axel (3) and Sofia (2); his loving and caring grandparents, Tom and Carla Hydeen, Floyd and Janice Haan, and great-grandma, Shirley Wynstra. He will also be deeply missed by his uncles and aunts, Steve (Andrea) Hydeen, Erika (Will) Strickland, Matthew (Holly) Haan, Mark (Kristin) Haan, and John (Jacqueline) Haan, as well as his cherished cousins, Lillian, Josiah, and Brielle Hydeen, Paxton and Finnley Strickland, Benjamin, Titus, Ezra, and Andrew Haan, Brenna, Julia, and Henry Haan, Eleanor and Matilda Haan.
Jacob is now at peace, reunited with his great-grandparents, Ode and Minnie Odens, Fred and Clarice Haan, Stanley and Helen Hydeen, and Marvin Wynstra, as well as his three siblings who passed away before birth. Though our hearts ache with grief, we hold on to the beautiful memories Jacob gifted us, we carry his love with us always, and we cling to the promise of the Lord Jesus that we will be reunited with him in heaven. (1 Thesalonians 4:13-18)
A visitation will take place on Monday, August 25th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at First Christian Reformed Church, 2901 E. 26th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57103.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 26th, also at First Christian Reformed Church, followed by a luncheon. Interment will take place at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, Iowa at 2:00.
Memorial gifts can be directed to Sioux Falls Christian School. A Memorial Scholarship has been established at Sioux Falls Christian School in memory of Jacob. This scholarship will serve as a lasting tribute, blessing other children with the gift of Christ-centered education while carrying forward Jacob's memory in love and hope.
