Sioux Falls
Jacqueline D. Haggin of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, went home with the Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Center. The heavenly choir gained a new soprano voice. She was 93 years old.
Born on April 17, 1933, in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Jacqueline D. Williams was the daughter of Lowell and Zeo (Bowles) Williams. She attended public school and graduated from Washington High School in 1951. After graduation, Jacqueline continued her education and attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD.
On July 18, 1953, Jacqueline married the love of her life, Leonard K. Haggin, Jr., at the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived in Sioux Falls and had three daughters: Linda, Janelle, and Carrie. Jacqueline and Leonard celebrated their 73rd anniversary this year.
Faith and family were Jacqueline's greatest passions. Jackie built her life around her family, church, and community. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang at weddings and funerals throughout the years.
Jackie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving multiple times as Worthy Matron and as Grand Marshal of the Grand Chapter of South Dakota in 1985. She was named Woman of the Year in Redfield, SD. Jackie was also a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the church choir, and a confirmation leader for twenty-three years. She served local churches with her husband in Mt. Vernon, SD; Bucklin, MO; Aberdeen, SD; Plankton, SD; Redfield, SD; Watertown, SD; Brookings, SD; and Pierre, SD. She was also a PEO member. Jackie was also devoted to sending cards to family and friends and rarely missed a date.
Jackie was proudest of volunteering as a narrator for the visually and physically handicapped for twenty years. This service was for the South Dakota Library for the Handicapped. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, cooking, and reading. Jackie was a prolific sewer, sewing most of her family’s clothing, and she really loved to dance.
She is grateful to have shared her life with her husband of 73 years, Leonard Haggin, Jr.; her loving daughters, Linda (Chuck) Hoffmann of Claremont, MN, Janelle (Kevin) Schmidt of San Jose, CA, and Carrie Schilling of Sioux Falls; five cherished grandchildren; nine dear great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Jackie is also survived by three nephews and three nieces.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Zeo Williams; her sisters, Ellen Marie Thompson and Willa Jean Leu; her nephew, Frank Leu; her brother-in-law, Lor Crane; and her sister-in-law, Marjorie Jo Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Spring Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, with a funeral luncheon to follow. Family visitation will take place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with an Order of the Eastern Star prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM, on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home – downtown, 507 S.
