James Timothy
Bean
Oct 26, 1974 — Jul 14, 2026
Sioux Falls
James Timothy Bean, long time employee with DirecTV, passed on Tuesday, July 14th, at Avera ICU in Sioux Falls, SD, with his wife and adoptive mother at his side. He was 51.
James Timothy Bean was born October 26th, 1974, to John Wallace and Linda "Jan" Janice (Thomas) Bean in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a child, he attended many schools across the US and Italy when his father moved duty stations with the Air Force. He joined the Army in 1996 and was Active Duty until 2000, when he moved to South Dakota and became a Reservist. While with the Army Reserve, he began working for DirecTV in October of 2014 and was there until his passing. He retired from the Army Reserve in June of 2020.
James met Sarah in September of 2011 after she had joined the unit. They worked in the same platoon and began their relationship in August of 2014. They married on June 9, 2016, in Sioux Falls before going camping that weekend (wedding celebration held at the Adrian campgrounds). They lost their first child in March of 2016 due to complications with the pregnancy. Since then, he has been a great father to our 3 living children (currently 9, 6, and 5). We purchased our house in the fall of 2020 before the birth of the youngest child.
James enjoyed TTRPG with his wife and family/friends, working on models of WWII planes, ships, etc. One of his hobbies that he has passed on to his wife is creating pieces of artwork with leather. He was good with making sure it was functional and would pass it to Sarah so that she could make it "pretty". While he didn't get to forge knives much in the last 10 years, he also had a passion for creating with hot metal by hand. For those that got his sense of humor and random BS trivia, you will laugh to know that his pin to his phone was 867-5309.
Blessed beyond knowledge to share his life with his wife, Sarah; daughters Caelan and Kendra; and son Josiah. His adoptive family, mother Roxanne Hannan, brother Phillip Hannan, sister Dawn Hannan, and son Mike Cool were dear to his heart. He has many "brothers" and "sisters" across the military and social media. He is preceded in death by his father John Wallace, mother Linda "Jan" Janice, and unborn son Ashton "AJ" James.
A wake in his honor will be on Sunday October 25th at the SD Military Alliance. More details to come.
