Obituary

James William Jarman, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD, after a short battle with a brain tumor. Born on January 2, 1936, he lived a full life marked by service, community involvement, and a passion for travel.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 4-6 PM at Miller Funeral Home Downtown Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Jim proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to his country. After his military service, he embarked on a career that included significant roles at John Morrell & Co. and Clarke American. He also served on the Board of Directors for Service First Federal Credit Union, contributing his insights and leadership for over 44 years.

He completed his schooling at Garretson High School, where he played guard in basketball and football. He was honored by being selected to the All-State team and even made the front page of the newspaper! You could always find Jim at some fishing hole/lake, as that was one of his favorite things to do. Jim was a devout member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where he found community and spiritual solace. In his leisure time, Jim loved to travel, exploring new places and new cultures, which enriched his understanding and appreciation of the world.

Jim leaves behind a loving family, including his wife of almost 49 years, Vangie; brother Jerry Jarman; Children Steven Jarman (Christina), Michele Weldy (Doug), Richard Jarman, Ronald Jarman, and Jeffrey Jarman (Michelle); Stepchildren Greg Herbranson (Char), Sandi Reemtsma (Darryl), and Todd Herbranson. He was a proud man with multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Jarman Sr. and Nettie Jarman Thompson; Siblings Dennis Jarman, Delores (Kathleen) Jarman, Margaret Arendt, Joan Heinemann, John Jarman, Richard "Dick" Jarman, Stepdaughter Tammy Woodford, and grandson Justin Jarman.

Jim's life was a testament to his resilience, generosity, and dedication to his family and community. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
