Jeffrey was born on July 14, 1961, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Glenn and Loretta (Semmler) Nelson. He attended Sioux Falls public schools and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in 1979. After high school, he pursued auto body repair at Vo Tech in Granite Falls, MN.
Following graduation, Jeff worked at Soo Import for several years, then at M&L Masonry. In 1997, he transitioned to a career in plumbing at Frisbee's, where he worked until his battle with cancer began.
On September 3, 1983, he married Christy Leitheiser in Sioux Falls, where they purchased their first home on the east side of the city. After twelve years, Jeff and Chris built a home in Brandon, where they have lived since 1995.
As a younger man, Jeff raced Street Stock Car #47 at Huset's. He later found new passions in fishing and hunting, always aiming for that big buck to hang on the wall, much to his wife's playful dismay. In 1999, Jeff bought his first Harley, and his life truly became an adventure. He was fortunate enough to ride his motorcycle in every state except Alaska, a dream he still held. When his children were teenagers, they often joined him on these trips, and they met many wonderful people at rallies. Jeff was a dedicated member of HOG Harley Owner Group and served on the board for many years. When not on his bike, he enjoyed watching or attending rodeos.
Jeffrey's life was a testament to his vibrant spirit and passion for life. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Chris; his daughter, Heather (Brian) Crosby of Harrisburg; his son, Daniel (Amber) Nelson of Gulfport, MS; and his eight grandchildren, born between 2010 and 2016 along with a few sisters-in-law and brother-in-laws, Kena Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD, Ricky (Erka) Leitheiser, Chester, SD, Penny (Jeff) Peterson, Crooks, SD, Terry (Monica) Leitheiser, Rapid City, SD; several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
