Jeffrey Herbert Rechtenbaugh of Hartford, SD, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Jeff was 64 years old.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford, SD, with interment to follow at St. George Catholic Cemetery, Hartford, SD. A luncheon will follow the burial at 120 Main Events, located at 120 Main St., Hartford, SD. Visitation with family present will take place from 5:00–7:00 pm, with a liturgical Wake beginning at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, October 1st, at Miller Funeral Home – Hartford Chapel, 600 S. Western Avenue, Hartford, SD 57033.

Jeff was born on July 13, 1962, to Herbert and Judy (Reif) Rechtenbaugh. He was baptized in Salem, SD, and confirmed at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford, SD.

On October 15, 1994, Jeff married Kimberli Sanne. They made their home on a farm outside Hartford, where they raised crops and cattle. They enjoyed camping and fishing and were the best of friends.

Jeff worked at Oakleaf Salvage for 25 years. In 2008, he purchased the farming operation from his father and became a full-time farmer. They continued to work the land and cattle together and created many memories.

Jeff enjoyed the outdoors, which included working on machinery, hunting, fishing, camping, and riding his motorcycle with friends.

Jeff had a big heart and was a good and loyal husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was always willing to help others and lend a hand with his mechanic skills, tools, and equipment. As a recipient of a kidney donation, Jeff’s final act of giving was to be an organ donor himself. He will be missed by many.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Kim; his parents, Herbert and Judy; his siblings – Sue (Kenneth) Miller, Bradley (DeAnne) Rechtenbaugh, Dawn (Scott) Fransen; Scott (Shawnie) Rechtenbaugh, Brett (Samantha Stobbe) Rechtenbaugh, Tara (Briggs) Rechtenbaugh-Carroll; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law.
