Joan Terry Noerenberg, born November 27, 1941, in Worthington, Minnesota, to Charles Lester and Ruth Ann (Watson) Banister, died peacefully on August 17, 2026, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Miller Funeral Home (Westside Location) 6200 W. 41st St. Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral Service will be held the following morning at 10:30 am, Friday, September 25, 2026 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1300 S. Sertoma Ave, Sioux Falls, SD.

Joan grew up in Worthington as a member of St Matthews Ev. Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and met her husband, Duane. They were married in October 1960 and shared nearly 65 years together in Worthington, MN; Owatonna, MN; Willow Grove, PA; and Sioux Falls, SD.

Beginning as a candy striper at age 15, Joan spent much of her working life in health care. After graduating from Worthington High School in 1959, she began her X-ray technician education at Immanuel Lutheran School in Omaha, NE. Her career included work as a medical secretary in hospital, podiatry, rehabilitation, and surgical settings, as well as providing hospice care, ultimately retiring from Sioux Valley Hospital (now Sanford Health).

Joan's relationship with God was central to her life. She had a gift for making people feel heard and understood, with gentle wisdom and thoughtful counsel. She and Duane opened their home to American Field Service (AFS) international students from Argentina and Italy and mentored several transitional students. Joan generously shared her time and compassion through hospice and hospital visits, and supporting school activities. Her church community became a meaningful part of her life, where she built friendships, shared experiences, served others, and continued to grow in wisdom and faith. Her caring presence left a lasting impression on those around her, who will remember her warm heart, gentle spirit, and the quiet way she made people feel at home.

Grammy Joan expressed her love most naturally through the things she did for her family. She was happiest in the kitchen, cooking and baking for the people she loved and filling her home with the comforting aromas of Swedish meatballs, quiche, chocolate mousse, homemade whipped cream, and whatever new recipe she was excited to try. She also found great joy in gardening, tending her flowers and plants with the same patience and attention she brought to everything she loved.

Joan’s family was her greatest joy. She loved spending time together creating simple, everyday memories. She lives on in the family she nurtured, the traditions she created, the gardens she tended, and the countless small ways she made life sweeter for those around her.

Joan is survived by her three beloved children: Terri Maguire (Redwood Falls, MN); Scott (Karin) Noerenberg (Hopkins, MN); Amy (Bill) Cauble (Sioux Falls, SD). Her legacy lives on through eight grandchildren: Tricia (Justin) Baune; Caitlin (Craig) Kodet; Taylor (Lyz LaBlanc) Maguire; Shea (Kyle) Keenan; Ellis (Vanessa) Noerenberg; Griffin Noerenberg, Brita (Aric) Spader; Murphy (Chaise) Cauble-Knutson; eleven great-grandchildren: Gretchen, Peyton, and Camden Baune; Hailey, Walter, Merit, and Quinn Kodet; Kinsley and Bonnie Maguire; Charlie and Cullie Spader; four step-grandchildren: Clara, Mary, Tommy, and Lizzy; and four step-great grandchildren: Maverick, Anais, Lluvia, and Santana. Her sisters: Virginia (the late Gary) Beck (Jacksonville, FL), Susan (Matt) Beaudin, (Jacksonville, FL), and Cynthia (David) Dirks (Carlos, MN) and brother-in-law, Gary (Vaunda) Noerenberg (Marietta, GA). She is lovingly remembered by Marcelo (Josefina) Montero (Minnetonka, MN), and Mariangela (Markus) Brutti (Austria) and their families, as well as countless friends she considered family.

Joan is preceded in death by her loving parents and devoted husband, Duane Noerenberg.
