Obituary

JoAnne Grace (Dupic) Herman was born on January 9, 1946, in Brigham City, UT, to Russell and Aletta (McGinnis) Dupic.  She passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by her family at Ava's House, Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street in Sioux Falls. A prayer service with Rosary will begin at 2:30pm.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30am Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Michael Catholic Parish, 1600 S. Marion Road, Sioux Falls, SD. Following a luncheon, interment will take place at 2:oopm at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 25965 477th Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD.

She attended public school in Lesterville, SD, and went on to graduate from Scotland, SD High School.

On February 10, 1964, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Herman in Lesterville, SD, and together they were blessed with 62 wonderful years of marriage.  After marrying, the couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where they welcomed three daughters and began building their family. JoAnne embraced being a homemaker, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to creating a warm, loving home.

She had a diverse and fulfilling career, working in food service, grocery, and retail before spending 21 years at Hutchinson Technology, where she retired from her role in quality control.

She was a devoted member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.  Her faith gave comfort, courage and hope which guided her throughout her life.  Her trust in God never faltered, even in life's hardest moments.

She enriched the lives of countless people through her dedication from volunteering at the school, her church, Sanford gift shop and Meals on Wheels.

Some of her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.  She cherished watching her children and grandchildren play sports, cheering them on every chance she had.  She enjoyed reading and camping.  She was an exceptionally talented cross‑stitcher whose beautiful creations will be treasured by her loved ones for years to come. She was also a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. She loved exploring the country and took great pride in having visited all 50 states.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bill; daughters Cheryl (John) Rettedal, Tea, SD; Teresa Herman, Sioux Falls, SD; Laurie Herman, Palmetto, FL; four grandchildren Shane Rettedal, Sioux Falls, SD; Michaela (Gregory) Zaloom, Albany, NY; Tyler Schumacher, Colorado Springs, CO; Luke Rettedal, Tea, SD; brothers, Dennis (Suk Hui) Dupic, Roseville, MN; Tim (Dian) Dupic, San Jose, CA; Mike Dupic, Harrisburg, SD;  sister, Donna Reister, Northfield, MN and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister, Pat McCain; brother, Raymond Dupic; brother‑in‑law, Bob Reister and niece, Hillary Dupic.
