John Walter Fischer, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born on April 3, 1933, to Walter and Dorothy (Terrell) Fischer in Canistota, SD.

He grew up in Canistota and graduated from Canistota High School. Afterward, he joined the United States Navy and served for four years. He married Shirley Lee Root on April 12, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota, South Dakota. Together, they had three sons: Terry, Jay, and Jon. He farmed for many years before moving on to work at Jordan Millwork Company, where he started in an entry-level position and ultimately served as president for several years before retiring. He was a lifelong member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Shirley Fischer; sons, Terry (Tanna) Fischer of Boynton Beach, FL., Jay (Michelle) Fischer of Sioux Falls, SD., and Jon Fischer of Lake Vermillion, SD.; brother, Walter (Cindy) Fischer; grandchildren, Ashley Fischer of Sioux Falls, SD., Austin Fischer of Sioux Falls, SD., Alexander Fischer of Minneapolis, MN., Karina (Joey) Jacks of Knoxville, TN., Nicole (Michael) Warne of Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Gavin Knopf, Stephon Jones, Adonis Jones, Oliver Jacks, Tesla Jacks, Eden Jacks, Ripley Warne, and Ivy Warne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Edward, Teresa, and Shirley.
