John Robert Gunderson, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, in his hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

John dedicated 35 years of his career to Citibank as a programmer, a role he embraced with passion and enthusiasm. He often said, "If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life."

An avid sports enthusiast, John enjoyed staying active through racquetball, tennis, golf, and hiking. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his devotion to his furry companions. From Red the rabbit and his childhood dog, Sport, to his cherished pets Regis, Berky I, Dakota Montana I, Berky II, and Dakota Montana II, they brought immense joy to his life and inspired him to remain optimistic.

John is survived by his brother Larry Gunderson and sister-in-law Barb, brother Bruce Gunderson and sister-in-law Laurie Johnson, nieces Michelle Miterko, Jenny Pudwill, Joan Gunderson-Palmer, nephew Paul Gunderson, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Gunderson.

In addition to his family, John leaves behind a strong and caring network of friends from across the country. He cherished the moments spent with them, whether working, playing, or engaging in spirited debates. John considered himself blessed to have each of them in his life.

A favorite quote of his father's that John kept in his wallet encapsulated his outlook on life: "Optimism is a gift to the youth but a necessity as you get older."

John's spirit, kindness, and zest for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
