John Hanna, a longtime resident of Sioux Falls, SD, died June 1, 2025, at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. John was 72.

John Hanna was born October 14, 1952, to Magaret and Norman Hanna nee Keegan. He was the younger sibling of Jean Hanna (Newton Fraguglia), who passed away September 5, 2018.

John was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and attended Lincoln High School. John's dad Norman, or affectionately known as Norm, came from a farming family, and was a WW2 hero, having fought in the army at Anzio and marched through occupied Rome. John grew up with a love of the outdoors, and loved to go hunting for pheasant and ducks with his father. This spirit for the outdoors would prove life-long, with John also being an avid cyclist who clocked many thousands of miles a year around Sioux Falls and the surrounding parkways. John was also a devoted and dutiful employee, and worked in a Florist shop before working for the Sioux Falls School District for over 27 years, before retiring.

John was known for his generous spirit and abiding kindness, and loved to joke with friends and was affectionate and welcoming to friend and stranger alike. John was an avid NASCAR fan and in particular was a Jeff Gordon super fan, with a large collection of Racing paraphanelia. John loved to talk about the intricacies of the weather, and had an uncanny knack at remembering past and future dates of significance, as well as having a keen sense of directions in his native and beloved city of Sioux Falls. John had a legendary sweet tooth, and loved cookies and ice cream. A consistent and devoted correspondent and visitor to those he called family, John always asked after how his friends and family were, and had a sincere and fun-loving desire to connect with people.

More than anything, John's faith was the touchstone of his life. He regularly attended 1st Baptist church of Sioux Falls and was a welcome and much loved parishioner. John spoke often about joining his departed sister, who he cared for deeply, and his parents in heaven. Even in the darkest times his faith was unshakable and he had faith over fear. This strong faith and conviction guided him in all aspects of his life, and now he may assuredly rest in peace.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, June 6, 2025, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue (81st and Minnesota Ave) in Sioux Falls. Following a time of fellowship and lunch, the committal service will take place at Spencer Cemetery, Spencer, SD.
